#115 | The Devil Wears Prada 2: Revenge Wears Prada

The Devil Wears Prada | Meryl Streep | Sequel | Podcast

Listen to our The Devil Wears Prada episode on:

Playing a viper-tongued magazine editor who definitely wasn’t in any way based on Anna Wintour, Meryl Streep introduced herself to a brand new generation of cinema-goers with The Devil Wears Prada; a huge hit that significantly elevated the careers of its entire cast. Anne Hathaway continued her graduation from Disney Princess to serious actress, Emily Blunt enjoyed the breakout of a lifetime and Stanley Tucci typecast himself for life as a wry homosexual counterpoint to a cast full of fabulous divas. (Seriously, he literally plays the exact same character in Burlesque).

Based on the bestselling novel from Lauren Weisberger, The Devil Wears Prada was a massive hit and remains one of the most quote-able and meme-able movies of the 21st century. Streep was Oscar nominated for her performance, and she probably should have won. While the material is fairly inconsequential, she locates the perfect pitch of ice aloofness for her character – creating a believably terrifying boss without ever raising her voice above a vaguely bored murmur.

While not an all-time favourite movie for either of us, we did have a lot of fun revisiting the world of Prada. Tune into this week’s podcast to hear our thoughts on Anne Hathaway’s secret superhero powers, Emily Blunt’s incredible use of eyeshadow, the lies cinema tells us about Paris and more.
