In the second instalment of our year-end special, we’re pitching quick-fire sequels to the movies we saw at the cinema between July and December 2017. This episode takes in the peak of summer blockbuster season, which featured action-packed successes like Spider-Man: Homecoming and Baby Driver, and a smattering of misguided failures like Justice League and Geostorm (which Harry actually quite enjoyed, but there’s no accounting for taste with that one…)
Along the way we also managed to work in a few early contenders for 2018 Oscar Glory – including Christopher Nolan’s triumphant Dunkirk, Kumail Nanjiani’s sweetly surprising The Big Sick and Kathryn Bigelow’s powerful but horribly depressing Detroit – which pushed our ability to pitch witty but non-offensive sequel ideas to the limit.
Our love of movies that feature ridiculous wigs and insane over-acting was rewarded with some of the more oddball mainstream releases this year, including Darren Aronofsky’s Mother!, Kenneth Branagh’s star-studded adaptation of Murder on the Orient Express and James Franco’s The Disaster Artist.
