200 | Titanic Revisited

It hasn’t actually been 84 years since we started this podcast, though at times it’s felt like it. We do hit a fairly major milestone this week though, and what better way to mark it than by going back to where it all began?

200 whole episodes again, armed only with some laughably crappy mics and a dream, Beyond the Box Set was born. We wanted to kick off with something big to clearly establish our concept – and movies don’t come much bigger than James Cameron’s Titanic.

In our original episode, we hadn’t really nailed down our format yet, and consequently we were in such a rush to get to our sequels that we didn’t spend much time on the actual plot of the movie – and obviously there’s a lot to talk about…

Tune into this week’s episode to hear our thoughts on ridiculous dialogue, broad ethnic stereotypes, Harry’s surprise crush on Kathy Bates and why, in spite of all its flaws, Titanic is still possibly the perfect example of a popcorn blockbuster.

We’ve also included all the regular features we missed the first time – including drinking games and listener reactions, plus a brand new batch of sequel pitches! Will they live up to our first efforts? Tune in and let us know in the comments…

You can also help us to celebrate the big 2-0-0 in style by leaving us a nice review on your preferred podcatcher. It really does help us out, especially now in our old age. You can also hit subscribe to receive a new episode every Monday morning, or sign up to our Patreon to access a variety of incentives including bonus movie reviews, extended episodes, a regular promo slot on our main feed and much more.

Next week, it’s back to business as usual with a classic comedy of canine proportions. Until then, happy listening – and here’s to 200 more!
